Catalina is a culture-first HR leader with a passion for people, learning, diversity, and building organizational cultures where colleagues feel free to bring their authentic selves to work and thrive. Catalina is a native of Costa Rica and an accidental storyteller. If you want to hear a fun immigrant story, ask her to tell you about the story of her parents’ move to the United States in 1981 with their four children.
As a mission-oriented leader, Murillo enjoys working for organizations that seek to advance the health and well-being of clients and the populations they serve as well as the communities in which we live. She also enjoys working for mission-driven organizations that recognize that people and culture alone can be the determinants of how high an organization will rise or to what depth it will fall if it isn’t intentional about hiring and retaining emotionally intelligent leaders and creating a positive, supportive, and respectful work experience. In this rapidly evolving digital age where innovation and speed are the currency of choice, she is honored to be an HR leader whose mission is to help build a people-centric organization.
Murillo believes in the power that leaders possess to challenge and inspire others to achieve and bring their best selves to work every day, through empathy and positive accountability. “In this ever-evolving and uncertain world, we, leaders, must commit to achieving results and instilling a sense of accountability in our workforce by showing employees the meaning of positive accountability. We have a duty to demonstrate what to do and what not to do and have candid conversations in a positive way, so our colleagues can be inspired to work toward personal and professional behavioral changes. To that end, we must never underestimate the healing powers of empathy and communication,” says Murillo.
She understands the challenges being faced by organizations today and enjoys the energy, dynamism, and opportunities found in hyper-growth emerging companies.
Over nearly three decades, Murillo has worked in organizations across industries such as retail, media, non-profit, and hyper-growth IT/professional services. She joins AM LLC from Maximus, Inc. where she worked for nearly 15 years and was most recently senior vice president, Global HR & Total Rewards. Catalina grew up in New Jersey and earned her BA and MA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Impressed by the District of Columbia’s international scene and diversity, she relocated to DC and earned an MBA from George Washington University.
“I am honored to join my colleagues at AM LLC and grateful for the opportunity to collaborate in the efforts to lead and advance the Human Resources function; and most importantly to continue to evolve and progress toward the goal to create a “Culture of Caring” at AM LLC.”
